Yesterday the First Secretary to the Treasury, Victoria Atkins, issued a written statement confirming a further two-year delay to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for ITSA), which was initially delayed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

MTD for ITSA will now be introduced from April 2026, with businesses, self-employed individuals, and landlords with income over £50,000, up from the initial threshold of £10,000 required to join first. Those with income over £30,000 will be required to participate from April 2027.

Despite this announcement, we would advise moving to digital record-keeping sooner rather than later, starting your digital journey as quickly as possible. Our digital software partners have been ready for this change for some time and are recognised by HMRC.
