Practice Accountant – Qualified

Position Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and talented Practice Accountant.

The role will involve delivery of services to a portfolio of clients. Tasks will include planning workload (self-assessment tax returns, year-end company accounts and corporation tax returns), liaising with clients and answering technical queries, reviewing and preparing accounts, answering technical questions and providing an all-round service going above and beyond for clients.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Preparation and reviewing of annual accounts.
  • Client meetings (virtual & face-to-face).
  • Completion of self-assessment tax returns.
  • Dealing with complaints and complex issues from clients.
  • Preparation and dealing with HMRC audits or investigation.
  • Monitoring and coordination of tasks and providing feedback to Accounts Assistants where applicable.
  • Provide tax advice.
  • Work as an integral team member to support and achieve the Company’s One Team goal.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Company and supporting and promoting the Company objectives and themes, promoting the highest standards of behaviour and attitude.
  • Commit to own professional development, enhancing and improving skills and knowledge to the benefit of all.
  • Using one’s knowledge, experience, and skillset to enhance, teach and develop other staff within the business, as appropriate, to help future-proof the company.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • To be qualified ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Experience of cloud accounting software.
  • To have a proven background in practice accounting and managing a portfolio of clients.
  • Excellent varied accounting and taxation knowledge.
  • Advanced knowledge of income tax, corporation tax, VAT and PAYE.
  • Ability to solve problems and provide a professional, punctual, and accurate service to clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to coordinate, supervise and report performance to seniors.
  • Excellent timekeeping and management ability with the ability to prioritise workload to ensure all tasks are carried out daily, and all deadlines are met.
  • To have a client-focused attitude and commercial awareness within the firm, and excellent attention to detail.
  • IT Skills with competent use of MS Word and MS Excel.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience of Iris accounting software.
  • Knowledge of capital gains and inheritance tax.
  • Previous experience of managing a team.
